Horatio Alger
My name is Josiah Schwarz and I am the Field Director in Oklahoma for the Horatio Alger Association. My job is to make high school counselors aware of a fantastic scholarship program for your students. The Horatio Alger Association will be awarding National Scholarships of $25,000 in addition to State Scholarships as well as other specifically targeted scholarships. We want to provide scholarships to students who, given the chance financially, could succeed in college.
The application opens December 1 and will close on March 15. We hope you will share this opportunity with your JUNIOR Class. The requirements:
● Be enrolled full time as a high school junior in the United States
● Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution)
● Demonstrate critical financial need ($65,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required)
● Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities
● Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity
● Maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0
● Be a United States citizen
There are additional Targeted Scholarships for your senior class listed on the website. I hope you will look at these as well.

Oklahoma Immunization Law
All 7th grade students must have Tdap. Ask your doctor for meningococcal and Human papillomavirus HPV vaccine at the same time and protect your teen now and in the future.
School immunization laws are one of the most effective ways to prevent disease outbreaks. Outbreaks of diseases such as diphtheria, polio, and measles were common in schools before vaccines were available. Schools were major sites for transmission of these diseases. School immunization laws work and now these diseases have almost vanished from the United States. We all have our parents and grandparents to thank for supporting these laws. If we keep vaccinating our children we can look forward to a future when these diseases will be eradicated.
